Community Events 2008

Dunsmuir hosts many special events throughout the year! Make sure to make reservations in advance; though Dunsmuir loves to accommodate visitors, motels and inns fill up fast on these busy weekends. Below are just a few of the annual events you can expect to find in Dunsmuir.

April 26 — Sacramento Avenue Open House

Meet The Brown Trout Café & Gallery, Ruddle Cottage, Window Box Nursery, Café Maddalena, Boxcar Gallery, Abundant Life Church, and the River Exchange. View train videos and the new railroad display room at the newly refurbished Amtrak station. 1-5 pm.

British Car Show

May 24-26 — Old 99 British Car Gathering
and Town-Wide Yard Sales

British car enthusiasts from throughout the western United States meet in Dunsmuir for a motor cavalcade through town ending in the historic downtown district for a show and shine. Indulge in Rotary Pancake Breakfast, City-Wide Yard Sales, Flower Art Show & Garden Tours, Spring Twig & Branch drop-off, Railroad Benefit Dinner, Music and Entertainment from Z100, Old Hwy 99 Merchandise, Car Wash, and just plain good ol' fashioned fun. On this weekend the entire town cleans their closets and attics! Arrive early for the best values, items go quickly. Be sure to pick up your map at the Radio Broadcast on Saturday and downtown businesses all weekend. Amtrak Depot Display Room will be open this Saturday from 10-2, see historic photography and railroad artifact displays. The Display Room is open to the public for viewing every third Saturday of the month.

May 24 — Garden Club Flower Show

Flower Show is free for entry and participants. Garden Tour Maps are available for purchase at the show for $10.00. For more information contact Dunsmuir Garden Club, 530-235-4819.

Railroad Days

June 13-15 — Railroad Days

Model Railroads, Parade, Lil Mr. & Mrs. Engineer Pageant, Kids' Fishing Derby, Diaper Derby, Dads' 3 Innings Softball Game, 3 Day Traditional Softball Tournament, Food, Music with Dancing in the Street, and FAMILY FUN!!! Hotels fill up fast... reserve now!!!

June 28 — Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra's "Tribute to The Trees"

The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra plays a concert in the Dunsmuir Botanical Garden at 4821 Dunsmuir Ave. Tickets can be purchased at the Recreation District 530-235-4740 (leave a message and you will get a return call) Ticket Prices are as follows: Concert Sponsor $75, Dinner/Concert $40, Concert Only $20. Park Opens at 4PM, Dinner 5PM, Concert 6:30PM. You may also send an email to the "Contact Us" at dunsmuirbotanicalgardens.org.

2nd Annual Mossbrae Music Festival

July 19 — 2nd Annual Mossbrae Music Festival

This year featuring Al Stewart! A folk and pop legend on both sides of the Atlantic, Al Stewart has written and recorded over twenty albums worth of timeless tunes over the span of a forty year career including the platinum selling albums "Year of the Cat" and "Time Passages." Considered one of the preeminent lyricists of our time, his songs are adorned with intriguing melodies and cover a broad range of thought-provoking themes and emotions. In the spellbinding tradition of his signature songs "Year of the Cat," "Time Passages," "On the Border," and "Nostradamus," among many others, Al's latest musical short stories are both lyrically meaningful and insidiously catchy. Hear them on the long-awaited CD "A Beach Full of Shells," and live in concert Saturday July 19, Botanical Gardens Stage, Dunsmuir City Park, Dunsmuir, CA.

July-September — Farmer's Market

August 6-10 — Siskiyou County Golden Fair

Held at the Yreka Fairgrounds.

Dunsmuir Artwalk

September 13 — Dunsmuir ArtWalk

Artists will showcase their work in several locations in the Dunsmuir Historic Downtown District on Dunsmuir and Sacramento Avenues and in artist studios in Dunsmuir. Studio tours and Downtown Art Show 4-8 pm. Maps are available at the event at every location at no charge.

September 20 — Upper Sacramento River Clean-Up and Barbecue

The community turns out to clean up trash and litter from the river, in this day long celebration. A free barbecue cooked by the Dunsmuir Lions Club for clean-up helpers follows fun on the river. Entertainment, Dunsmuir Artwalk, and prizes awarded for different categories of trash collected. Call the River Exchange 530-235-2012 for information.

November 8 — Holiday Craft Fair

Community Bldg, hosted by the Dunsmuir Rotary.

TBA — Candles in the Canyon Christmas Celebration

Come ring in the holiday season with a good old-fashioned Community Christmas. Delight in fun such as Brunch with Santa, parade, pictures with Santa & Mrs. Claus, arts and crafts, kid contests, raffle, bell choir, and so much more. Don't forget the sales and discounts found at several downtown shops and restaurants.
